Synopsis: Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel Xerxes, and told in the breathtaking visual style of the blockbuster “300,” this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield—on the sea—as Greek general Themistokles attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war. “300: Rise of an Empire” pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes, and Artemesia, vengeful commander of the Persian navy. Here’s what one critic had to say:
If there is anything that can be credited to 300, by director Zack Snyder, is paving the way for a long series of films that did without a lot of green screen usage. Its sequel, 300: Rise of an Empire, it seems a kind of example of how to exploit those qualities that made the original a success and transform all that in an incredible show of style and violence, which today can be seen in a new international trailer .
For those who do not remember or have not seen the original, this is followed by Spartan King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and his army of three hundred warriors in what historically was called the Battle of Thermopylae against the forces of evil Persian king Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro). Rise of an Empire follows quickly after the events in the previous film, so it will not be so necessary to count the years in between. More here
