You loved Ice Age and Rio.
Beyonce has one of the best voices in the business, and now the singer will put it to use as one of the stars of a new animated film. The CGI-animated movie, Epic, will be produced by Blue Sky Studios, the makers of the Ice Age films and Rio, both which also employed pop stars as voiceover actors. Beyonce will play a character named Queen Tara, as if Bey’s voice could indicate anything other than royalty.
Epic is described as a battle between good and evil, and the story involves a teenage girl transported into a secret universe. She teams up with “a rag-tag team of fun and whimiscal characters” to save this universe, and thus save the real world. Sounds… well, pretty epic, indeed. More here
Have you read The Leaf Men?
“The forest belongs to the darkness.” Well, we’re not sure if audiences will flock to see Epic or not. While Blue Sky Animation’s adaptation of William Joyce’s children’s book The Leaf Men has plenty of adventure, the scale of the action doesn’t seem to fare well with the humor. There are flares of Shrek combining with Fern Gully and Avatar, but something doesn’t feel quite right. The animation looks positively stunning, but the contemporary feel of some of the characters’ dialogue doesn’t mesh with the visual aesthetic. It feels like there’s two different films at work here, but maybe it’s just how the trailer is put together. Watch it here!
