Concert Posters to Movie Posters – Classic Films get new posters
Wednesday 22nd of May 2013 09:03:30 PMClassic Movies get new posters from Concert Poster Artists
In 2008 the Alamo DraftHouse Movie theater in Austin Texas,
started ordering posters for their classic movie showings from
established concert poster artists.
~
The posters were a revelation. They caused us to see these classic
movies in a new light. Some of the posters were even better than
the original posters.
~
To Illustrate this, I have culled a few of these posters for your perusal.
~
The question I ask of you as you look through posters, Are these posters a travesty,
a cheap sacrilege on the memory of the classic movies? or do they add and “embiggen”
the meaning of the movies in our culture?
~
Leave a comment to answer. I will choose one comment at random on May 1, 2010 and the
winner will receive his or choice of any 3 of the posters in our inventory.

I actually like them and i think it isn’t sacrilige its paying homage to a classic film that the artist enjoyed. i really liked the pulp fiction and dirty dozen ones. I think people need to stp being so uptight and just let artist make art.

exceptionally cool. Although, they do rely heavily on our pre-digested knowledge of the film, rather than carry the weight of introducing the film to fresh eyes.

Yet another reason I love Alamo Drafthouse — I’m just utterly crushed I don’t live in Austin anymore, because it means I miss both the awesome shows there PLUS the amazing art they commission. Though I love some of the examples you’ve put up, I can’t believe you left out Stout’s Inglourious Basterds print. I’m a fan of anything he does, and that Ken Taylor print is amazing too.
