By 1989 the comic strip had been elevated to the status of “graphic novel”, and Tim Burton invited us to give up our search for the inner child and find our dark sides in Michael Keaton’s Batman, a Hamlet-like malcontent. Then, in the wake of 9/11, Nolan followed his complex Memento and Insomnia by reviving a now-moribund franchise. To misquote Scott Fitzgerald, he embarked on the search for the soul of the dark knight where it is always three o’clock in the morning. In 2005′s Batman Begins he provided a new account of the creation myth, adding some kung fu, a touch of Da Vinci Code conspiracy and a dash of Bond to Kane’s 1939 account of Bruce Wayne’s orphaning.
On the other hand CNN found the movie Horrid
Don’t get me wrong — I think Nolan is one of Hollywood’s best and brightest, and the previous two Batman films set a high bar. In an era dominated by spectacle, fantasy and escapism, when apparently all the audience really wants or needs is the excuse to switch off and chill out, “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight” supplied all that and still somehow reflected the anxieties and tensions of America in the post 9/11 world.

The bad news is, first, that it lasts two hours and 45 minutes, which is astonishingly bloated — and unforgivable in a film that spends a long, ponderous hour getting started, despite a couple of action sequences that don’t involve any heroics by Batman.
When Bruce Wayne, alias Batman (Christian Bale), eventually rides to the rescue, he comes as a man misunderstood by the public and authorities alike — he’s still blamed for the death of Harvey Dent, the architect of the Dent Act, a piece of miracle legislation that has rendered Gotham City virtually crime-free for eight years.
